Perth’s east end to get another boost with new restaurant, bars

THE revitalisation of Perth’s east end is set for another boost with the opening of a new restaurant and two new bars in the Pan Pacific Hotel.

Peruvian restaurant Uma, cocktail lounge Bar Uma and a beer-focused pub Hill Street Bar are all set to open in the hotel this week.

The new venues are part of a bid by Pan Pacific to recapture the heady days of the 1980s and ’90s, when the hotel was a bright spot in Perth’s nightlife.

Pan Pacific general manager Rob Weeden said despite the east end of the city being home to 16 of the city’s hotels, tourists left the area to find vibrant nightlife.

“I saw this pilgrimage of hotel guests from as far down as the Hyatt and the Fraser Suites,” Mr Weeden said. “They walk up Adelaide Terrace looking for restaurants and bars. I was losing people at my front door.”

Uma will be led by executive chef Alejandro Saravia who is behind Sydney’s Morena and Melbourne’s Pastuso restaurants.

“(Peruvian food) is hugely popular across Europe and it’s rocking Dubai right now, so that’s where we’ve gone,” Mr Weeden said.

The east end of Perth is beginning to enjoy something of a renaissance, with the Historic Heart project, led by property developer Adrian Fini, working to revitalise the area.
